Before Coming to STARBASE
Dates for your school's participation at STARBASE have been determined in the spring of the previous school year and confirmed by your principal. Please check with your principal if you do not know the dates of your participation so you can plan accordingly.
As a classroom teacher, you will receive a STARBASE Teacher's Manual outlining the program and important instructions that will help prepare you and your class, and includes student permission slips, security forms, bus transportation forms, class lists, and other important information. Please verify the number of students in your class several weeks prior to participating by using the form found in the teacher's manual and faxing that information to STARBASE Minnesota, 612-713-2540.
The manual also contains pre-STARBASE lessons (only one is mandatory), curriculum overview, standards alignment, lesson overviews, homework, post-STARBASE lessons and a number of other resources. The manuals will be delivered to the office of your school at the following times:
- Fall, STARS 1 (4th Grade): Delivered in August, prior to the start of school.
- Late fall and winter, STARS 2 (6th Grade): Delivered in September.
- Spring, STARS 1 (4th Grade): Delivered in February.
Please collect and bring all old STARBASE manuals with you to STARBASE so they can be reused to help manage the costs of these manuals.

Call Signs (Mandatory Pre-STARBASE Lesson)
Please complete the Call Sign lesson with your class prior to coming to STARBASE. By completing this lesson, you are allowing for more instructional time at STARBASE, and helping to excite students and mentally prepare them for an entirely new and exciting experience. We will not be using time at STARBASE to choose call signs.
Homework
Please make one copy of the packet for each student prior to coming to STARBASE. These packets are intended to go home with the students. The homework packet is separate from the flight log. Students will leave their flight logs at STARBASE.
The homework packet was designed for three different reasons. First, it reinforces skills and content learned each day. Second, parents become more informed about what their child is doing at STARBASE. Finally, classroom teachers may use the homework as part of an overall assessment of the students’ work at STARBASE Minnesota.
We expect students to complete their homework each day. They do not need to bring their homework packet with them to STARBASE. We will not be collecting or grading the homework packets each day or at the end of the week. We do, however, encourage you to collect this homework and use it as part of an assessment.
