This summer internship combines program and organizational support to STARBASE in preparation for and implementation of the summer STARBASE Explorer Summer Program with opportunities to develop skills and grow professionally in the field of STEM education. Timeframe: May-August. Ten weeks during 2026 with a possible extension to twelve weeks if candidate is able to start earlier than June 1 or work into August. The program is closed between July 27 and August 7.
Explorers program preparation, training, and implementation: Collaborate with STARBASE Instructor team to aid in the preparation of teaching materials, lesson supplies, technologies, and other to prepare for and implement the summer program. Learn program technologies, i.e. 3D printing, video software, laser cutter, and poster printer to create exciting, visual tools and props that enhance the program. Support the implementation of STARBASE programs with associated tasks defined each day from the start of program to graduation. Learn to use and support classroom technology such as Computer Aided Design (CAD), robotics, iPads, and more.
Parent & volunteer support: Serve as a support person for students and parents on the first day of each session and throughout the summer program, conducting check-in, tracking student callsigns, working with the admin team to coordinate security information, tracking attendance, following up on absences and related. Support student check-out from camp daily and be responsible for signage change-over, as needed.
Photography and videos: Take “Explorer photos” of students from each class; prepare explorer cards for the end of week. Take additional student camp photos, capturing impactful moments during daily activities, and log for program archives. Aid in the development of graduation videos.
Activity support: Act as a group leader for outdoor lessons such as GPS, rocketry, and more. Learn the functionality of GPS units, rocket launchers, altimeters, and CAD design. Provide support to the team for preparation of materials and program for graduation. Support classroom instructors during STEM lessons and support lesson kit preparation and clean-up. Provide student support in the form of answering questions, and providing technical support during CAD and other activities. Oversee lunchtime activities. Candidate may have the opportunity to co-teach a STEM lesson during the final session of Explorers camp.
Qualifications:
- Prior successful employment in part-time and/or temporary capacity.
- Advanced level skills with Microsoft applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Adobe Creative Suites skills, and other publishing and/or video editing software a plus.
- Excellent verbal, writing, interpersonal skills, and customer relations skills essential. Computer skills a must.
- Excellent time management, prioritization, and organizational skills with the ability to work under tight deadlines. Strong attention to detail.
- Self-directed; ability to take initiative; results oriented. Needs limited supervision.
- Ability to treat sensitive/confidential information with appropriate discretion.
- Foster an inclusive environment appreciative of differences in the workplace. Meaningfully participate in efforts to support the STARBASE commitment to equity and diversity.
- Flexible team player.
- Must have reliable transportation. Occasional lifting will be necessary.
