STARBASE Minnesota, Inc. Celebrates Partnerships with Kick-Off Event

Corporate and Community Partnerships are key ingredients in the “special sauce” that makes STARBASE Minnesota, Inc. programming successful. Contributions of volunteer time and expertise, grant funding, and in-kind donations from these partners enrich the student experience, expand our reach with student audiences, and help us make connections to real-world careers in STEM.

On Wednesday, September 25th, representatives from the MN State Legislature, 3M, Boston Scientific, Collins Aerospace, Cummins, Delta Air Lines, Ecolab, Medtronic, nVent, Stratasys, Sun Country Airlines, Tennant, Toro, Xcel Energy, and the MN National Guard gathered for a celebration of partnerships and a kick-off to the 2024-25 school year.

Guests had the opportunity to try out cutting edge technologies, meet the Board of Directors, and see students in classrooms engaging in engineering design, STEM career research and robotics. Partners left with a deeper understanding of strategies behind the work being done to inspire and prepare Minnesota’s future STEM-skilled workforce.

STARBASE Minnesota, Inc. proudly acknowledges partners and individuals who exceed partnership expectations with the “Giving Wings to Dreams” Award. The 2024 recipients are 3M and Cummins, Inc.

Cummins, Inc. has provided grant funding and hands-on volunteer support since 2021 to support the Destination Mars STEM kits.  Since 2021, the Cummins, Inc. team members packed and delivered 1,500 backpacks to Columbia Heights, Fridley, and Mounds View schools, completed subassembly for kits, and in just 2023-2024 alone, over 70 volunteers contributed to packing materials on site at Cummins. Additionally, the Cummins, Inc. engineering team and a former STARBASE Minnesota student, now employee, are highlighted on the STEM career website that students explore careers on each week.

Every day, students feel and see the impact of the support given by our corporate and key partners. Financial contributions and time volunteered allows this program to continue to grow and thrive.  Our partners truly understand the importance of educating and inspiring youth, our future STEM-skilled workforce.

3M is a longstanding corporate partner to STARBSE Minnesota, Inc., and has provided Diamond Level cross facility support through grants and in-kind donations to advance STARBASE Minnesota, Inc. programs and technology.  STEM professionals from 3M have supported STEM at Work events for more than 15 years!  Volunteers from 3M have also donated time and expertise through the Advanced Mentoring program and some of those volunteers worked with STARBASE instructors to plan and implement new curriculum.  Several 3M scientists and engineers are featured in videos on the STEM career website.  The STARBASE Minnesota, Inc. Board of Directors has also been fortunate to have multiple leaders from 3M serve on the Board to help guide the future direction of STARBASE Minnesota, Inc., including current Board members Mike Kesti and Dave Soenen (retired).
