Wanted: Volunteer Scientists and Engineers
STARBASE Minnesota invites you to share your expertise as a STEM professional with our students!
STEM at Work is an event during which you will inspire young people to pursue science, technology, engineering and mathematics! Volunteers share about their careers in an 8-minute, interactive demonstration for groups of 5th grade students. Demos include props, equipment or technology that students can see/do along with you. Volunteers repeat their demo three times, while student groups rotate through stations in our classrooms. Each demo is unique, but follows this format: 1 minute introduction to your career path and overall mission of your corporation. 7 minutes of hands-on demonstration time where students touch/experience products/innovations from the “real world” of STEM. Before each event, volunteers meet with a STARBASE instructor to discuss demonstration ideas and prepare materials. Students leave inspired and talking about their future careers!
