Wanted: Volunteer Scientists and Engineers

STARBASE Minnesota invites you to share your expertise as a STEM professional with our students!

STEM at Work is an event during which you will inspire young people to pursue science, technology, engineering and mathematics! Each volunteer provides an 8-minute, interactive demonstration for groups of 5th grade students. Demos include props, equipment or technology that students can see/do along with you. Volunteers repeat their demo three times, while student groups rotate through stations in our classrooms.

Each demo is unique, but follows this format:

Brief introduction -1-2 minutes – describe your job and educational path
Hands-on demo – 6-7 minutes – students touch/experience products/innovations
Throughout  – answer/prompt student questions/thinking about how to pursue a future in STEM
