Continuing the Passion
After their week at STARBASE, our students go back to school. The Mentoring 2.0 program was created to stay connected with students and support their interests in science, technology, engineering and math. STARBASE 2.0 Mentoring pairs military and corporate volunteers with former and future STARBASE students in an after-school program. Students meet with coaches and mentors to explore the possibilities in cutting-edge science through hands-on team projects. Each semester has a different theme, including LEGO Robotics, Science of Speed and Energy, and most recently, Rocketry
Volunteer mentors work with a small group of elementary or middle school boys or girls on their STEM projects. No STEM background or mentoring experience is necessary, as the school’s teachers and STARBASE staff will be there to guide you. The desired adult to student ratio is 1:2, and groups are gender-specific. Mentoring takes place during a 1-2 hour block of time and is typically scheduled once a week.
